Mission and Vision

The primary goal of UARWH is to advance and coordinate scholarly research and teaching in women’s & gender history in Ukraine, as well as to promote that knowledge internationally.

The organization’s activities are aimed at institutionalizing women’s & gender history within Ukraine’s higher education and academic research, integrating a gender approach into historical studies, and fostering transnational conversation on women’s pasts.

Through scholarly research, academic discussions, and dissemination of knowledge about women’s history, UARWH stimulates interest in the gendered dimensions of the past and contributes to raising the theoretical and methodological standards of research and teaching in this field. UARWH encourages and supports the creation of centers for the study of women’s and gender history at academic and educational institutions, makes existing scholarship accessible, and supports early-career scholars in this field.

UARWH is committed to the principles of gender equality in academia and in public life. Drawing on in-depth knowledge of the gendered dimensions of the past, UARWH reveals the historical roots of gender inequalities and demonstrates the value of applying a gender lens for a fuller and more comprehensive understanding of Ukraine’s history and culture.
