Annotation: This volume examines the position of women in early modern society across the various stages of life and their legal status, women’s attitudes toward religion, material culture and the world of objects associated with women’s lives and activities in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, women’s testaments and deviant behavior, and contemporary social attitudes toward the female body and conceptions of beauty and morality. The topics explored in the collected volume offer valuable foundations for further scholarly inquiry in the field of women’s history, may stimulate discussion of new approaches and methods for studying women’s roles in early modern Commonwealth society, and may ultimately contribute to the reassessment of established historical narratives and to a fuller account of the Commonwealth’s development in the early modern era.
