Annotation: This monograph examines the life and scholarly career of the prominent Ukrainian historian, Bulgarian studies scholar, encyclopedist, archivist, and educator Vira Nykanorivna Zhuk (1928–2008) — Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Honored Cultural Worker of Ukraine, and one of the founders of regional historical studies in the Poltava region. Particular attention is given to her contributions to the development of Bulgarian historical studies and the regional history of Poltavshchyna. Zhuk authored or co-authored some 1,000 publications, including scholarly articles, monographs, reference works, encyclopedic entries, essays, methodological guides for educators, brochures, and articles and reports in periodicals. The study emphasizes how Zhuk’s substantial and active research work continued the tradition of regional history in Poltavshchyna and within Ukrainian historical scholarship. A bibliography of her works is included, and many of the photographs in the volume are published for the first time. Intended for historians, local history researchers, instructors, students, and all those interested in history.
